Check out this beautifully done example of liquid simulation in this VFX spot called "Sans Cans" created by ILP and Mass Market for Lowe's! ILP was approached by MassMarket with the task of creating streams of sentient paint for a Lowe's spot. The scope of the work involved small streams of paint leaving homes to larger streams of paint flowing down the streets and all the way to a gigantic tower of paint shooting up into the sky. They started R&D and look development at the same time as MassMarket worked on the previs. As always, when dealing with any kind of simulation work, the biggest challenge was to get the liquids to move where and when they wanted it to in a natural way. The problem with directing fluids is that it tends to look forced and thereby looses its' liquid quality. Afte...

Amazingly done! Must see for sci-fI fans! Has a Mass Effect epicness to it! Dust 514 (stylized as EVE: DUST 514) is an upcoming free-to-play console-based FPS set within the Eve universe, developed by CCP Games. It was announced on August 18, 2009 at the Game Developers Conference in Cologne, Germany and was introduced with a short trailer featuring realtime footage of the game. This will be the first video game to be released by CCP since Eve Online, and is under active development at CCP's Shanghai studio. According to Hilmar Veigar Petursson, the CEO of CCP Games, the game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3, although community and customization features will be accessible via PlayStation Vita. Dust 514 will take place in and be directly connected to CCP's first game, Eve Online. There will be direct interaction between the two; player actions in one game will affect the political and economic status of the other. Additionally, an "orbital bombardment" in Dust 514 is a unique feature that involves an Eve Online spaceship firing at a designated ground target in a Dust 514 battle. All combat within Dust 514 will take place, in real-time, on planets found in the Eve Online universe. The player alliances and corporations of Eve Online can hire Dust 514 players as mercenaries to fight for control over planets; the outcome of such battles will affect the sovereignty of player-run political powers in Eve Online. A direct form of interaction comes in the form of "orbital bombardments". Orbital bombardments allow a player in Eve Online to provide direct assistance to friendly forces in a battle in Dust 514. If a player in Eve Online is in position with a ship above a planet in which a Dust 514 battle is currently taking place, a Dust 514 player can designate a target for the ship to fire upon. This was first shown to the public as an actual ingame mechanic during EVE Fanfest 2012, although it had been previously featured during the 2011 fanfest in a cinematic trailer titled A Future Vision. Both games share the same namespace, so a player in Dust 514 cannot choose a username that already exists in Eve Online or vice-versa. This allows players from both games to join the same corporation or alliance, in addition to real-time chat. In an interview conducted by Simon Carless of Gamasutra, Hilmar said that he hopes "these [Eve Online and Dust 514] communities will meld over time", bridging the two environments. He described the relationship between the flying-oriented nature of Eve Online and the infantry-oriented nature of Dust 514, saying "while the fleet does the flying, the infantry does the dying". The massive Eve universe will be the platform for all planetary combat. Brandon Laurino, executive producer of Dust 514, has confirmed that there will not be a set number of maps at launch, saying "We are covering literally a universe of planets, so there's thousands of different maps and they're all available to everyone who's playing." In the Eve fanfest of 2012, even before the release of Dust 514, CCP has already revealed ideas for expansions in 2013. Possible future features include the ability to traverse on planets with "hostile" environments (such as lava planets) and the addition of mechanized exoskeletons that players can use, called MTACs. Dust 514 will be a first-person shooter with elements of massively multiplayer online games. Combat will take place on the various planets found in Eve Online, each of which will offer a unique map. Planets will be divided into large districts, which hold resources and installations that players must fight for control over. Only the natural landscape of each planet remains constant; the placement of buildings and surface structures is controlled by the player corporations. Both teams will have a "commander" who can oversee the planetary combat and make tactical decisions from a RTS-style perspective. The commanders reside within a massive aerial fortress known as the "mobile command center". According to CCP, mobile command centers will require fuel to run systems such as turrets and energy shields, and it will be up to commanders to extract fuel from sources within the battlefield. The goal of each team will be to destroy the opposing mobile command center.

After much trial and error, blood, sweat and in some cases tears, we think they achieved a pretty convincing effect! Enjoy this Award Winning CGI 3D Animated Short ,"PLANET UNKNOWN"... At the end of the 21st century mankind was facing global resource depletion. Space Rovers were sent out to find potential inhabitable planets. Created by the talented Shawn Wang! For more information, please see the details below. Links Planet Unknown on vimeo – https://vimeo.com/183577091 Planet Unknown website – http://planetunknownfilm.com Planet Unknown Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/PlanetUnknownFilm Planet Unknown IMDb - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5850826 Shawn Wang - http://shawnwangvfx.com Echoic Audio - http://echoicaudio.com Info Planet Unknown is a passion project from Chinese student and director Shawn Wang. Animated over eleven months it was the final project for Shawn’s course at the Communication University of China. The film looks and feels like a Hollywood production. The attention to detail is exceptional with jaw dropping renders. Both the pace of the film and the use of shots is impeccable. The idea started back in 2014 when Interstellar was released in China. Shawn was deeply impressed by the movie and inspired by the two robots Tars and Case. The idea of intellectual robots exploring space started from there. Other inspiration includes Pixar movies like Wall-E and Toy Story, as well as Chappie and NASA documentaries about Mars Rover Curiosity. Short films by individuals like Alex Roman’s The Third & The Seventh, Richard Mans’ Abiogenesis, Erik Wernquist’s Wanderers, Alf Lovvold’s Dawn of the Stuff, and so many more. Shawn started working full time on this project in July 2015, though the storyline wasn’t fixed until November. The process was challenging but it was a perfect learning opportunity as well. Cinema 4D, plugin TurbulenceFD and Octane for C4D were heavily used for most of the tasks. Houdini was used to fracture things. Then Zbrush for sculpting, Mari for texturing, After Effects for compositing, and Premiere for editing. Python and JavaScript were used for scripting in C4D, Mari and AE, which helped speed up the process a lot. It took around 4 months to build the 3D assets. Then Shawn moved on to animatic previews. Each individual shot got more clear and problems to solve became more specific. Then the rest of the time were mainly focused on building scenes, keyframe animation, FX simulation, rendering and compositing. Three months before the hand in date Shawn approached Echoic Audio, one of the UKs leading music and sound design studios, to create the soundtrack for the film. The collaboration was a huge success with Echoic’s epic orchestral score and detailed sound design catapulting the film to the next level. The project got wrapped on June 1st 2016. And premiered 9 days later at Communications University of China to an audience of more 2,000 from all over the city. Planet Unknown recently won Best Animated Short at the Burbank International Film Festival. Director biography Shawn Wang is an animation director and 3D artist. Having a passion for CGI and storytelling, Shawn loves creating narrative visuals through all types of media. He completed his debut short animation project Planet Unknown during his last year at Communication University of China. The project was inspired by various space exploration movies and media. Echoic Audio biography Echoic Audio is music & sound design studio based from the UK. Echoic creates bespoke audio for a variety of film, TV and advertising projects. They have a strong sense of creativity working on a variety of collaborative passion projects each year. CVPR 2016 Paper Video (Oral) Project Page: http://www.graphics.stanford.edu/~niessner/thies2016face.html IMPORTANT NOTE: This demo video is purely research-focused and we would like to clarify the goals and intent of our work. Our aim is to demonstrate the capabilities of modern computer vision and graphics technology, and convey it in an approachable and fun way. We want to emphasize that computer-generated videos have been part in feature-film movies for over 30 years. Virtually every high-end movie production contains a significant percentage of synthetically-generated content (from Lord of the Rings to Benjamin Button). These results are hard to distinguish from reality and it often goes unnoticed that the content is not real. The novelty and contribution of our work is that we can edit pre-recorded videos in real-time on a commodity PC. Please also note that our efforts include the detection of edits in video footage in order to verify a clip’s authenticity. For additional information, we refer to our project website (see above). Hopefully, you enjoyed watching our video, and we hope to provide a positive takeaway :) Paper Abstract We present a novel approach for real-time facial reenactment of a monocular target video sequence (e.g., Youtube video). The source sequence is also a monocular video stream, captured live with a commodity webcam. Our goal is to animate the facial expressions of the target video by a source actor and re-render the manipulated output video in a photo-realistic fashion. To this end, we first address the under-constrained problem of facial identity recovery from monocular video by non-rigid model-based bundling. At run time, we track facial expressions of both source and target video using a dense photometric consistency measure. Reenactment is then achieved by fast and efficient deformation transfer between source and target. The mouth interior that best matches the re-targeted expression is retrieved from the target sequence and warped to produce an accurate fit. Finally, we convincingly re-render the synthesized target face on top of the corresponding video stream such that it seamlessly blends with the real-world illumination. We demonstrate our method in a live setup, where Youtube videos are reenacted in real time.

CGI Animated Short Film Paths of Hate by Damian Nenow | Platige Image. Featured on http://www.cgmeetup.net/ "Paths of Hate" is a short tale about the demons that slumber deep in the human soul and have the power to push people into the abyss of blind hate, fury and rage. Focus on fight. The dimension of fighting is irrelevant, as well as the ideology behind it. It does not matter whether two people are involved or millions. what remains are only scars – bloody traces, Paths of Hate. “Paths of Hate” is a short tale about the demons that slumber deep in the human soul and have the power to push people into the abyss of blind hate, fury and rage. Falling into that abyss inevitably leads to downright destruction and extinction. “Paths of Hate” is a film filled with spectacular and Visuallyattractive scenes of aerial fight scenes. In its construction, particular narration and, most of all, in its innovative and technically-advanced stylization of the images based on 3D graphics, it resembles an action comic book put in motion. Having talked to Tomek Baginski I tried to set the world of “Paths of Hate” in a highly stylized artistic convention. In 2006 the first trailer was produced, it was at the same time a technology test. Comic-book stylization hit the nail on the head. I decided that the drawing-like line ideally fits the surreal duel scenes and gives the film freshness and distinguishes it from among photo-realistic 3D animations. – Damian nenow - Director.
